Why should I hire a professional photographer?
Anyone can take a picture these days... nearly everyone has a decent camera, or at the least, a camera phone. But there is a difference... let me tell you why.
When words fail to tell your story, a professional can compose a stunning image with intent, balance, and design in mind.
To create a superb photograph, a professional photographer knows where to go for great backgrounds and what time of the day to go there for the most flattering light. A professional understands complicated camera functions, exposure settings, and how to best use their camera accessories and off camera lighting. And in those fleeting moments when the light is just right, and the expression or pose is angled just perfectly, a professional must have the eye to compose and the quick reflexes to get the shot. A professional enhances the photographs using professional photo editing software. Often there is so much to this craft that is overlooked because our market has over-saturated in the digital age. But it's the details in photography that are truly important... the stages before, during and after your photo shoot are all critical to the final product.

Why should I trust you to create my portraits?
I'm good at what I do. I have plenty of patience with children and I've been called a baby whisperer by my clients. I can recall the clients who swore they never looked good in photographs -- but then they saw their portraits -- and loved how I captured the essence of their being. These portraits are going to be on display and enjoyed by your family for generations to come!
What if my child won't sit still, or is tired/cranky the day of the session?
As a parent (and grandparent) myself, I know how kids can be. During the planning process, we'll work together to plan your session around naptimes, during your child's most cheerful time of day. Rest assured, if your kid is having a really off day, it's okay to just give me a call so we can discuss rescheduling options. If you're concerned about your child sitting still, don't be! I love working with wiggleworms, and have tricks for handling all that glorious energy that comes with being a kid.
Do you have an actual photography studio?
Currently, I do not have my own personal studio but I do have access to one that can be rented.
What if the weather is bad the day of my outdoor session?
It's natural to think about inclement weather when scheduling outdoor sessions. During the planning process, I'll explain my typical contingency plan for location portraits, which sets all of my clients at ease. In general, if the weather is bad, we will reschedule (or decide on an alternate/indoor location). Some types of weather that we reschedule portrait sessions for include: thunderstorms or downpours, winter weather warnings/advisories, extreme cold or excessive heat warnings/advisories, extreme heat/humidity, tornado watches/warnings and extreme fog. We typically proceed with portrait sessions on a “play it by ear” basis for not-so-foul weather, such as: snow flurries or isolated rain showers. There has been a time or two when we’ve rescheduled a session, expecting bad weather — and it turned out to be a false alarm. But those instances are few and far between. Usually when we play it by ear, we agree to decide a few hours beforehand whether it looks wise to proceed with your portrait session or not.
Why are newborn sessions longer than your other sessions?
Newborn portraits are longer, because babies are unpredictable and need time to nurse, feed, be diapered, and tended to. Babies often will sleep through most of the session (and the portraits). It’s actually not a big deal, because sleeping baby pictures capture the reality of a baby’s days. I usually recommend you stay indoors for your newborn portrait session. It's just more cozy for baby (and you). A studio or home session is nice and warm for newborn portraits. You don’t have those luxuries when you venture outdoors.
